Meta’s mission is to give people the power to build community and bring the world closer together. Formerly known as Facebook, Meta is now the parent company of Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger, and Reality Labs. Facebook was founded in 2004, initially as a community for colleges and universities. Instagram was acquired by Facebook in 2012.
