About the Role
As a Senior Tool Customizer, you will play a key role in supporting project teams by preparing tailored tool configurations for in-line inspection activities across different business lines. You will work closely with Tool Coordinators, Project Teams, Process Professionals, Work Group Leads and other technical stakeholders to ensure the right equipment, documentation and preparation activities are in place for safe and successful project execution.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess project, pipeline and object information to determine appropriate tool requirements.
- Select the most suitable tool class and configuration based on operational, technical and project-specific conditions.
- Define, create and validate customised tool configurations, including additional tool-related equipment where required.
- Check historical object data, available configurations and parts availability to support accurate planning and preparation.
- Prepare equipment work orders and maintain relevant information in the applicable systems.
- Provide technical advice to project teams regarding tool determination, preparation and configuration options.
- Support complex projects involving non-standard configurations, multiple stakeholders and higher technical or operational risks.
- Gather feedback from site personnel regarding tool performance, operational findings and technical issues.
- Contribute to continuous improvement activities, training materials, work instructions and knowledge-sharing initiatives.
- Provide supervision, guidance and technical support to less experienced team members where required.
About You
You are a technically strong and detail-oriented professional with experience in tool customisation, equipment preparation or a related technical field within the oil and gas industry. You are confident working independently, solving technical issues, making sound decisions and coordinating with different stakeholders to deliver practical and reliable solutions.
Skills and Experience
- Relevant technical experience as a Tool Customizer or in another technical role within the oil and gas industry.
- Strong understanding of technical documentation, drawings, tool configuration and equipment preparation.
- Sound understanding of pipeline operating principles and in-line inspection tool or equipment operating principles.
- Ability to troubleshoot technical matters independently and make well-structured decisions.
- Good understanding of quality assurance measures and risk assessment in technical preparation activities.
- Strong planning, organisation and documentation skills.
- Ability to contribute to continuous improvement and support the development or review of work instructions and training documents.
- Certification Level 2 as Tool Customizer, or the ability to obtain this certification, is preferred.
- A technical qualification in a relevant discipline such as electronics, mechanics or a related field will be highly regarded.
