Position Title: Vehicle Painter / Automotive Refinishing Technician

Employment Type: Full-time

Location: Perth, Western Australia

Salary: AUD $75,000 – $90,000 per annum plus superannuation

About the Role

The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing, repairing, refinishing and protecting vehicle surfaces to a high-quality automotive standard. The role requires strong technical capability in automotive paint preparation, colour matching, spray painting, finishing works, paint correction and premium vehicle protection applications.

The position will also support MAS Project’s specialised automotive protection services including Paint Protection Film (PPF), automotive window tinting, vinyl wrapping and other vehicle appearance enhancement services.

This role requires excellent attention to detail, a strong understanding of automotive paint systems and the ability to deliver consistent, high-quality results for luxury, performance and commercial vehicles.

Key Responsibilities

Vehicle Painting and Refinishing Duties

The Vehicle Painter will:

  1. Inspect vehicle surfaces to identify paint defects, scratches, dents, corrosion, imperfections and areas requiring refinishing.
  2. Prepare vehicle panels and surfaces by cleaning, sanding, grinding and smoothing rough areas.
  3. Remove old coatings, damaged paint and surface contaminants where required.
  4. Mask vehicle components and areas not requiring painting using appropriate masking materials.
  5. Prepare primers, undercoats, colour coats and clear coats according to manufacturer specifications.
  6. Match and mix automotive paint colours using colour identification systems and paint mixing equipment.
  7. Apply primer, basecoat and finishing coats using spray guns and other professional painting equipment.
  8. Perform sanding and polishing between paint layers to achieve smooth finishes.
  9. Conduct paint correction, touch-up repairs and final finishing works.
  10. Apply protective coatings, waxes and finishing products to enhance vehicle appearance.
  11. Inspect completed paintwork to ensure quality standards are achieved.

Paint Protection Film (PPF) Installation Duties

The Vehicle Painter / Automotive Refinishing Technician will also:

  1. Prepare vehicle surfaces before PPF installation including washing, clay treatment, polishing and surface decontamination.
  2. Measure, cut and install paint protection film on vehicle panels including bonnet, bumpers, guards, mirrors and body sections.
  3. Apply PPF using professional installation techniques to avoid bubbles, wrinkles and contamination.
  4. Trim and finish film edges to achieve an OEM-quality appearance.
  5. Inspect installed films and correct installation issues where required.
  6. Maintain knowledge of different PPF products, including self-healing protective films and premium automotive protection systems.

Automotive Window Tinting Duties

The employee will:

  1. Prepare vehicle glass surfaces before tint installation.
  2. Measure and cut window tint films accurately.
  3. Apply window tint films to vehicle windows using professional installation techniques.
  4. Remove air bubbles, wrinkles and imperfections.
  5. Ensure compliance with Australian vehicle tinting standards.
  6. Inspect finished tinting work and complete quality control checks.

Other Automotive Enhancement Duties

The role may also involve:

  1. Supporting vinyl wrapping and vehicle colour change projects.
  2. Assisting with ceramic coating preparation.
  3. Performing paint correction and detailing preparation.
  4. Maintaining tools, equipment and workshop cleanliness.
  5. Following workplace health and safety procedures.
  6. Maintaining accurate job records and reporting completed works.

Required Skills and Experience

The successful applicant must demonstrate:

  1. Minimum 3 years relevant experience as a Vehicle Painter, Automotive Refinishing Technician or similar role;
  2. Strong knowledge of automotive paint preparation and finishing processes.
  3. Experience using spray guns, automotive paints, primers and clear coats.
  4. Experience with colour matching and paint mixing.
  5. Ability to achieve high-quality automotive finishes.
  6. Experience with PPF installation and automotive window tinting is highly desirable.
  7. Strong attention to detail and commitment to workmanship quality.
  8. Ability to work independently and as part of a professional automotive team.

Requirements

  1. Minimum Certificate III in Automotive Refinishing Technology is Preferred
  2. Relevant automotive refinishing trade experience.
  3. Industry experience with luxury vehicles, performance vehicles or premium automotive detailing.
  4. Australian citizens or permanent residents are preferred.
